• Rats & Mice Across Sydney Properties

  We get called out for rats and mice more than almost anything else here in Sydney, and honestly the city sets them up well. Winters don’t get cold enough to slow them down, houses sit close together, there’s food scraps most places you look, and a lot of suburbs still have old stormwater drains running underneath. It adds up. Here’s what we’re usually finding on site.

• Roof rats (Rattus rattus)
  These are your climbers. A palm tree next to the house, a fence that runs up near the roofline, sometimes even a drainpipe, and they’re in. Roof voids, eaves, wall cavities, that’s where they end up nesting, and once they’ve claimed a spot they’re stubborn about leaving it.

• Norway rats (Rattus norvegicus)
  Heavier build, and they’d rather dig a burrow than scale a wall. You’ll find these ones lower down, drains, under the floor, near where the bins sit, tucked into a shed that hasn’t been opened in a while.

• House mice (Mus musculus)
  Small enough to get through gaps you’d never think twice about, and they breed fast once inside. Doesn’t take long for a couple of mice in a pantry to turn into a proper infestation. We see it in offices too, more than people expect.

• Sewer rats
  These tend to show up more in the older parts of Sydney. Ageing pipes, a grease trap that hasn’t seen a service in years, that kind of thing gives them a way in.

Here’s the thing though, none of this sorts itself out on its own. Rats and mice leave scent trails as they go, and other rodents follow those trails right back in. So one gap that’s never been sealed properly can end up supporting way more animals than you’d guess just by looking. What actually works is sealing off how they’re getting in, cutting off the food they’re after, and getting rid of wherever they’ve started nesting.
